This is a great hammock stand for those who are looking for something lightweight and portable. It is made out of PVC pipe and can be easily disassembled for storage or transport.

Here’s what you’ll need to build your own:

  • PVC pipe (I used Schedule 40, but any type will work)
  • PVC pipe cutter or saw
  • Measuring tape or ruler
  • Drill with bits (for making pilot holes)
  • Pencil
  • Hacksaw (optional)
  • PVC primer and cement (optional)
  • Sandpaper (optional)
  • Two T fitting
  • Union
  • Two 90° elbow fittings

Step by Step Instructions:

Cut two pieces of PVC pipe to the desired length. We cut ours to about six feet, but again, this will vary depending on the size of your hammock. Next, cut four additional pieces of PVC pipe to create the base. These should be about two feet long.

Now it’s time to assemble the frame. First, take two of the six-foot pieces and the four-foot base pieces and glue them together using PVC primer and cement.

Make sure that the pipes are flush at the corners and that the base pieces are perpendicular to the six-foot pieces.

Once the glue has dried, repeat this step with the remaining six-foot piece and base pieces. You should now have two L-shaped frames.

To finish the frame, take the two L-shaped frames and glue them together at the apex of the L using PVC primer and cement. Make sure that the frames are flush at the corners and that the base pieces are perpendicular to the six-foot pieces.

Now you just need to add your hammock! We recommend using a rope hammock for this project, but feel free to use whatever type of hammock you like. Just be sure to adjust the length of the PVC pipes accordingly.

Hang your hammock from the two six-foot pieces of PVC pipe using whatever method you prefer. We simply tied ours directly to the pipe, but you could also use S-hooks or carabiners.

And that’s it! You now have a lightweight and portable hammock stand that you can take with you anywhere.
